Blemish Acne Cream

There are many different kinds of blemish acne cream on the market today. There are so many choices that it can be difficult to know what to choose. At drugstores and supermarkets you will find a wide range of products that claim to get rid of acne. Most of these products contain either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Examples include brands like Clearasil, Stridex, Oxy and Clean and Clear. These brands represent only a few of the choices available.
When it comes to choosing between salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, some studies have shown salicylic acid to be a bit less drying to the skin. If you have severe acne and very oily skin, drying may be what you're looking for. However if you are struggling with adult acne which often includes dry skin and wrinkles along with blemishes, salicylic acid may be the way to go. Read the product packaging to find out what the active ingredient is and how much of it is contained in the product. Even if you decide to use an over the counter blemish fighting product, you may want to consult with your dermatologist first.
Your dermatologist can examine your skin thoroughly and recommend the products they feel will be most effective for you. They may recommend prescription acne treatments depending on the severity of your acne. Retin-A is a commonly prescribed treatment for adult acne as it works on aging skin and blemishes at the same time. You will find that with many acne creams including Retin-A, there is a period of adjustment during which your skin looks even worse. This is only temporary and is a common occurrence before improvement is seen.
Another option in blemish acne cream is to try a skin care system. Two examples of systems are ZenMed and Proactiv. These product lines contain multiple products that work together for the maximum benefit. ZenMed uses botanical capsules, a cleanser and a spot treatment to fight breakouts. Proactiv uses a cleanser, toner and treatment lotion. This lotion works by moisturizing while fighting breakouts and preventing new ones. No matter what kind of product you try for your acne it is important to have patience. You should allow at least 8 weeks for a product to work before you decide whether it is effective or not.
